Awesome tutorial, the only difficulty I’m having is the chromatic part 4 notes in a row on the g string, when he comes back to the Ab note. I always miss that note with an upstroke

The tab I viewed and practiced with wasn't lining up with what my ears wanted to hear. Most of the time, it's my struggle with the rhythm or speed or both that is the primary setback. However, what you said about positioning is key for me. After sliding from G# to A, this tab shows open 1st string E, then 2nd fret and string C# note and 'A' note 2nd fret 3rd string before ending somehow with open E, B, E, G, 1st Fret G#. I first attempted learning this riff in 2012, but quit. Soon I will cross it off my bucket list- thanks.

If anyone is learning this song, and like many of the songs of this era, the tuning seems to be 3/4 of a step down vs a half step down..Maybe it's just me..Dunno..I found some songs to be 1/4 step down (or up) as well..

A good guitar solo to relate this to is Take it Easy, Eagles. More or less all on the EBG strings starting by hitting the G triad 3rd fret and it works back and then up the neck to the 12th with double stops and string bends, added notes for melody.

I've been getting back to jazz the last bunch of months and your "from exercises to music" section is exactly where I am right now - and Autumn Leaves is one of the 10 or so songs I'm working on! Overall this is just an excellent video for anyone trying to get into Jazz. As for "next tune" ideas, I would suggest Blue Bossa - always an easy "warm up" tune. Or for a first Charlie Parker tune, either Now's the Time or Billie's Bounce (My Little Suede Shoes is always fun too).
